Will You Help Me Quit This Year?

Will You Help ME Quit This Year?

So it’s already late February and I feel like the year has already starting going by too fast!  Working toward my goals for this year is going to be the BIGGEST undertaking of my life.  I don’t want to waste a moment of it.

I’m Not A Quitter

I’m gonna get personal for a moment.  For years I worked toward a career that I thought I would enjoy, that I thought I was good at.

I went through school being told that I was good at math and science.  And sure, I was, but I didn’t love it.  But I stuck through it because I’m not a quitter.

I took 6 years to get a 4 year degree in a bioengineering degree that fascinated me, but really drained me too.  I worked (still work) in a corporate job that’s got good benefits and pays okay.  But I’ve come to realize that I don’t like it and never really have.

Sure, I have skills and abilities that allow me to do my job well.  But I don’t feel like they have ever helped me flourish.

My Wake-Up Call

Then one day I took a personality test called Strengths Finder.  My results made perfect sense to me and I agreed with them completely.  But then something in my results completely changed my perspective.

They told me that I would excel in a marketing setting.  Marketing? I thought that was way too close to sales.  And I DON’T love sales.  I worked through the summers of college selling knives and coordinating events.  It was NOT for me.

So how did this make sense for me?  I realized that marketing wasn’t always about sales.  It was about conveying a message in a way to help others as much as possible in the most effective way.

I’m all about having effective habits.  I’m currently working through Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People again for the third time.

Then when I put the dots together … it all made perfect sense.  You see, I’d been blogging on my first site MyNaturalBabyBirth.com as a means to help moms while trying to earn a little more money on the side.

When my Strengths Finder results told me that a career in marketing would be great, I realized that I needed to change the way I was doing things.  I was going to turn my little blog into a business.  I changed the direction of my life.

Strengths Finder

Now I’m A Quitter

I saw a meme recently that said something like this:  Successful people quit.

Successful people quit.

IT’S TRUE.  Think of someone that you know who you consider to be successful.  Do they focus on things that don’t help further them along toward their goals?  Do they continue doing things that are no longer serving them?

So I wrote in my planner for this year my word:  QUIT.

  • Quit my job.
  • Quit wasting time.
  • Quit doubting my efforts.
  • Quit being negative.
  • Quit chasing after shiny objects.
  • Quit the information overload.
  • Quit forgetting to take care of myself.
  • Quit un-prioritizing money saving.
  • Quit eating so many grains & carbs.
  • Quit working too long without breaks.
  • Quit feeling envious or jealous.
  • Quit not relying on the Lord.

So I have planned out my entire year to make this a reality.  I’m declaring it to the world.

I am going to quit my job this year and create the business and lifestyle I desire through the content marketing I have come to love online.

For once in my life I feel like I’m making this shift that really feels like it’s worth it. For the first time ever I feel like I’ve found my purpose.  Also for the first time in my life, I’m starting to rely on others.

I’m such an independent person that I have been training my mind to do better at asking for help.  Today is such a day.  I need your help.

  1. QUIT BEING NEGATIVE is the number one QUIT I think should be on your list – I am not a negative person at all and never have I ever been. My mom, however is SUPER negative… So it is hard to hang around her when I ever do but I don’t let WOMP WOMP people get in the way of my happy go lucky nature. I honestly think I am so happy go lucky because of exercise! LOL!

    1. You’re right GiGi. Everything on my list is actually on the same priority as each other. But yes, when it comes to something like quit being negative, that can positively feed into every else. Thanks! 🙂

  2. This is so awesome to see! I was also like you a few years back and found that I wasn’t satisfied with my career and that what I really loved was helping others become the best version of themselves. So I turned that into my career! I would love to follow you on your journey!

    1. Hi Jennifer! That would be wonderful. I’d love to pick your brain. 🙂

  3. Sarah says:

Quitting is always such a negative word, this is great!

    1. Thanks Sarah! Quitting can certainly be a positive thing when you do it the right way. 🙂
